Nothing Short of a Miracle
It was 6:40 P.M. on September 17th when brothers and co-owners, Scott and Tom Herman, received phone calls saying Performance Pattern & Machine was on fire. It took eight fire engines and a couple hours to put out the blaze that started in the second floor of the building.
It was Vince Herman, co-founder and former owner of PPM, that was in the building at the time the fire started and called the fire department.
“I heard the alarms and went upstairs to take a look,” said Vince. “At first glance, I thought I could handle it myself so I went to grab the fire extinguisher. When I went back upstairs and saw the flames had already gotten bigger, I got out of the building and called 911”.
At that point in time, there was no definite answer to when Performance Pattern would be up and running again.
“Everything was up in the air Saturday night,” Tom said. “We didn’t know if machines had sustained damaged, when we could get electricity back in the building, or when to tell employees when to show up. You don’t really have a plan for what to do when it comes to something like this.”
